"Mentor of Distinction" Award

A Member of the National Speakers Association and Fellow in the American Academy of Dental Hygiene, Marilyn Cortell is a dynamic and engaging speaker lecturing both nationally and internationally before audiences ranging from health care professionals to the general public. She is widely recognized for her expertise in oral health and its connection to total health placing  emphasis on the bodies inflammatory response, autoimmunity and use of drugs. She recently researched and incorporated Aging With HIV, Dimentia and other related topics into her current presentations.

Associate Professor Emerita, Marilyn Cortell recently retired as a full time Professor Emeritus from New York City College of Technology (NYCCT), a City University of New York College. As a respected educator Marilyn taught both Clinical and Didactic Courses with a specialization in Pharmacology, Anatomy and Advanced Clinical Skills. During her professional career she has written and published numerous articles for publication in journals, conducted clinic-based research projects and contributed to three prominent textbooks, one of which is The Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist by Esther M. Wilkins, which is the Gold Standard Text.
 

Throughout her over fourty year professional career she has flourished as a lecturer, advisor and mentor to prospective and current college students, colleagues, friends and family. As a Recognition of her continuous unmitigated mentoring she received the National Philips Sonicare “Mentor Of Distinction Award.” To this day she continues to mentor, guide and coach others toward fulfilling their personal and professional goals.

Currently Professor Cortell is a fellow in the American Academy of Dental Hygiene (FAADH), a Consultant Member to the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CDCA) and Advisory Board Member to  the Drug Information Handbook for Dentistry (DIHD) and continues to lecture on a diverse range of health related topics.
